If you are starting a youth sports program, protecting the kids and making sure that all of your volunteers are trustworthy has to be one of the most important things that you do. There are a lot of things that you can do to make sure that all of the volunteers and people that will be working with children are screened, which shows parents that safety is a top concern of your program. Look into these different things to help improve your youth sports program.

Concussion and First Aid Training

Make it a requirement that all of the staff must go through a concussion recognition course and a first aid and CPR training program. This way the staff can detect if someone has a concussion, and they should no longer be participating in games or practices until they see a medical professional, and you aren't putting a child's life at risk. You can have someone come to your organization's location, or you can take some training courses online. Talk with your local authorities to learn more about first aid training.

Finger Print Screening

A finger print screening will allow you to see if any of the staff members you currently have, or any of the volunteers, have criminal records. You can do a finger print screening, and then the company sends away to check for the prints in different states for criminal records and more. This is a cost worth paying.

Background Checks

You can choose to do a FBI background check if you want to see what type of crimes someone may have committed or if they have a violent or extensive criminal record. You may not care if someone has gotten in trouble for having too many speeding tickets, but you don't want someone who has a violent history around children.

The parents will see that you are taking precautions with who is coaching the kids and that you are going out of your way to make the organization safe, and it will encourage them to sign up their kids. They will have confidence that you are putting the safety of the children first, which is important if you want to run a program that is respected in your area. If you are ready to do any type of youth sports activities and you want to start up your own organization, these are some of the things you'll want to do.
