If you are the manager of a restaurant kitchen, you likely want the environment to be as comfortable as possible in order to ensure that your employees are able to work easily and are able to see at all times. One way that you can help ensure this is to install a range hood, which will help control the smoke that is sometimes produced when cooking heavier foods. If you do get this hood installed, you likely want to make sure that it continues working well so as long as possible. Here are some tips for maintaining your range hood.

1. Check Your Motor

If you notice that your hood is not clearing smoke out of the room as fast as you would prefer, this could be result of your motor not working properly. There are 2 reasons why your motor might be having issues. The first is because it is simply worn out and is not going to be able to produce the same amount of power. The second is that it might be greasy as a result of being near where you are cooking, with potential grease splatters. If you touch the motor and it feels slick to the touch, then you will need to clean it using a degreaser and a q-tip. If it looks a little ragged, you will simply need to replace it. Try to check your motor for grease once a month.

2. Clean the Air Filter

Another thing that you should be doing is cleaning the air filter. You can do this by filling up a bucket that can entirely hold the air filter with warm, soapy water, as well as a touch or two of degreaser. From there, you can dunk the air filter into the container and allow it to sit for an hour. This should loosen the grease up and dissolve it. Then, scrub the filter with a sponge. Finally, put the air filter in the top section of your dishwasher and let it go through one cycle. Take it outside if the weather is nice and allow it to dry in its entirety. Finally, put it back into your range hood. If you have a charcoal filter, simply be sure that you are taking it out and replacing it with a new one once a year.
